All organisations operating electrical equipment in their workplace have a statutory duty to maintain safe standards for their employees and the general public enforceable under the Electricity at work Regulations 1986 and the Health and Safety at work etc.Act 1974.

It is recommended by the Institute of Electrical Engineers that buildings over 5 years old are subject to a periodic test and inspection and as a minimum should continue to be inspected and tested every 5 years and a report of the inspection be issued together with the test results and any recommendations.

Many business find themselves in a situation where they have no insurance cover for incidents where damage is caused by an electrical failure. This is because it is often an insurance company requirement that an electrical report is obtained and that any recommendations in that report are carried out within a reasonable time.

We carry out contracts for a wide array of different protects ranging from large corporate electrical installations to small household electrical repairs, interior and exterior. Due to our large stock we have covered just about everything needed for our installations, this has meant we have been able to offer our customers a much more personalised package and this has given them exactly what they required using a simple and easy to install product.

Below some of the installations we have recently completed with LED products:

Here on the exterior of the building. We used water proof LED power suppliers & strip lights around the edge of the signs. We also used LED tubes to light the wiring in the centre of the sign.

Here we used water proof RGB strip light as back bar lighting.

Here and below we used 6.9 watt LED GU10 lamps wired up to a dimmer switch. We had no problems with flickering and they worked great with the high ceilings because of their high light output.

Great colours, low running costs and low maintenance because of their average 50,000 hour life spans.

I have been working in projects with restaurants, bars, shops and offices and they  all have  become very interested in this new technology, as it allows them to manipulate the ambiance and create all different types of effects and moods e.g:

• Restaurants and bars have been very interested in RGB LED strip lighting, as it allows them to change the look and ambience of their premises day by day depending on what events they may have on any particular evening.
• Offices find that white coloured LED spot lights help improve performance as they help keep staff more alert and therefore improving productivity.
• Shops may use a wider variety of LED lighting depending on what they intend on displaying.

As you can see we have come a long way in lighting compared with a few years ago. We have much more choice and options readily available.

The possibilities are truly endless.

We have completed another year of ISO. Well done Mac Services! It was worth the hard work. We were all very nervous due to a staff member being on maternity leave and the new member of staff covering had to pick up the work very quickly. We all worked together to get our services up to ISO standards, the extra work is well worth the acknowledgment and recognition it gives us. All our files, documents, policies, procedures, and manuals were thoroughly inspected. The Managing  Director was interviewed and reviewed on the service provided, on both Quality and Environmental – well done Daniel! Not forgetting Markus our Contract Manager who was also questioned and did a fantastic job. Additionally all the office staff including Breeda worked very hard to get everything ready for the review. MAC Services passing the ISO clearly shows that we were able to maintain the standards required throughout the year but most importantly we had expanded our quality of work! We will be implemented further improvements requested and suggested by ISO, and will keep up the good work. We are meeting our objectives, hitting our targets and reaching our goals; these are constantly reviewed on a regular basis. Mac Services aims to continue its growth and develop further every year. WELL DONE!!!!

We  are always looking into new technologies and methods to lower our carbon foot print and reduce cost on the day to day running of business.

We believe LED Lighting has come a long way in the past year with regards to price and most importantly, quality. This is one of the many reasons why we are incorporating this technology in our ever larger work portfolio.

There are many different styles, effects and colors to choose from which makes them ideal for decretive lighting as well general office, household or factory lighting.

Although the over all cost of LED lamps are higher than standard lightbulbs, the energy saved and the long life of these lamps well out way conventional lighting.

High quality LED lamps have estimated life spans of between 30,000 and 50,000 hours! Generally most of these lamps pay for them selves within the first year of use, with the cost towards energy saved.

We have a project on Installing motion sensors to cut costs to a property.

This calculation is based on the following factors:

1. Electricity price of 10 pence per KW unit.
2. 36 x 28watt 2D fittings
3. 10 x 50watt low voltage fittings
4. 3 x 60w HQI fittings (external)

If the existing internal light fittings are on 24hrs a day and the external are on an average 12hours a night the costings are the following:

36 x 28w 2D light fittings = 1008w.  1008w x 24hrs = 24192watts per day (24kw)

24kw x 365 days = 8760kw per year.

8760kw x 10pence = £876 per year

10 x 50w = 500w.  500w x 24hrs = 12000watts per day (12kw)

12kw x 365 days = 4380kw per year

4380kw x 10pence = £438 per year

3 x 60w = 180w. 180w x 12hrs (dusk to dawn sensors) = 2160watts per night (2.1kw)

2.1 x 365 nights = 766kw per year

766kw x 10 pence = £76 per year

This equates to about 47,000 kg’s of CO2 per year.

If motion sensors are to be installed where required, then the average time the lights are on is about 4 hours a day.

36 x 28w = 1008w.  1008w x 4hrs = 4032watts per day (4kw)

4kw x 365 days = 1460kw per year.

1460kw x 10pence = £146 per year

10 x 50w = 500w.  500w x 4hrs = 2000watts per day (2kw)

2kw x 365 days = 730kw per year

730kw x 10pence = £73 per year

The external lights would stay as they are.

Projected savings of about £1000 per annum

This would produce about 8000 kg’s of CO2 per year. Saving a massive 39,000 kg,s of CO2.

Do you know Anthony Gormley, the creator of Angel of the North?

This is the moment of: “do you remember when?”..

We worked alongside the famous artist to create BLIND LIGHT, an exhibition which was shown at the Hayward Galley in London!

A simple luminous glass room filled with a dense mist allowed viewers to observe people vanish as they entered the brightly lit room, slowly emerging as shadows as they came closer to the walls. For the guests inside the room they could lose themselves in the light mystic vapour where visibility was a little as two feet.

The complete  electrical installation of the Blond light exhibition was carried out by MAC services who were proud to work on the project!
